PRINCIPAL ROLES

Albert Peterson (30’s):  Mild-mannered, nervous agent and songwriter, trying to manage his career and his relationship with his fiery fiancée, Rose. He’s the nervous and high-strung president of Almalou
Records. Must be a strong vocalist. He also serves to carry the show’s main action. As such, he must
have spot-on comedic timing and move VERY well. Bari/tenor vocal range – C flat to F flat

Rose Alvarez (30’s): Rose is Albert’s secretary but dreams of the day when she can adjust his title from
“employer” to “hubby.” She is efficient, vivacious and the calming “brains” of Almalou. She orchestrates
the publicity stunt that takes Albert, Conrad and herself to Sweetapple. The role of Rose requires a woman who can display a truly strong spirit and a spicy inner being who can’t wait to escape. Must
sing/dance/act exceedingly well. A true Triple Threat. Alto Belt with strong upper range. vocal range – A
flat to C

Conrad Birdie (Late 20’s-Early 30’s): Good Looking, Rude, Arrogant, but unmistakably MAGNETIC. He’s a
true STAR when performing…off stage…not so much. Conrad has a Swag and Strut to his character. He
believes his own hype. Yes, there is a good deal of “Elvis” in him but not an impersonation. Conrad knows
his body is as important as his singing and knows how to use both. Must Sing and move very well.
Baritone – D flat to E flat

Mae Peterson (50-60): Albert’s emotionally manipulative mother. We’ve heard of the stereotypical
“Overbearing Mother” before? Well, that’s Mae to a “T”. When Albert is around her, her strength makes him a Mama’s Boy and she loves controlling him because he’s all she has and she doesn’t want to share with anyone, especially Rose. VERY strong comedic chops required. This production will include Mae’s song “A Mother Doesn’t Matter Anymore”. Mezzo vocal range

Kim MacAfee (Teen 18-21 – playing 16): Sweet, excitable but self-absorbed teenager. The lucky member
of the Conrad Birdie fan club to be chosen for Conrad’s ONE LAST KISS. However, she really does care for her boyfriend Hugo. Kim needs to come across as a typical all-American teenage girl of the 1950’s. She’s convinced that she’s already reached adulthood and is mature and sophisticated…until she isn’t! Must be an excellent singing actress and move well. Soprano – A to A flat

Harry MacAfee (Late 40’s-Mid 50’s): Kim’s dad. Highly strung, controlling and traditional but loving. A
typical “Dad” of the late 50’s but with a comical twist. He leads the comedy in every scene he’s in. Harry
just wants to live his life the way it’s always been, but with the arrival of Conrad, his world is turned upside down and he tries to cope the best he can, but doesn’t really succeed. Strong comedic chops required. Bari/tenor vocal range – C to E

Doris MacAfee (40’s): Kim’s mother. She’s the typical 50’s housewife and mother. Think Mrs.
Cunningham on Happy Days. She’s devoted to her family and tries to make everything alright and normal with the arrival of Conrad but is rather overwhelmed. Mezzo-Soprano – C flat to E

Randolph MacAfee (Playing 10-12): Kim’s precocious younger brother who’s overlooked a bit, and when he is acknowledged, he really isn’t given much respect at all…especially from his dad. However he must sing well and loud and act with conviction. Boy soprano.

Hugo Peabody (Teen 18-21 – playing 16/17): Hugo is Kim’s understandably frustrated boyfriend. Well, come on, how would you feel? You’ve just pinned the girl you’re completely in love with, and the next
thing you know she’s all onboard to deliver the official send-off kiss to the teen rock idol of the decade.
He’s just a regular kid…insecurities and all. Good comic timing required. Will sing off stage.

Ursula Merkle (Teen 18-21 – playing 16): Kim’s loud and wacky best friend. She’s very excitable and may
be the BIGGEST Conrad Birdie fan ever! She’s always looking out for her best friend’s interests, Ursula
offers wise council to Kim in times of need. She’s a little quirky, high-energy, and busting with vitality.
Must sing and dance well. Doubles as her character in the ensemble. Mezzo-soprano – E to F

ENSEMBLE ROLES

All vocal types. All must sing well. All should dance or at least move VERY well. This is a very small ensemble so all Ensemble members will be playing MULTIPLE parts and have multiple dialogue. Sometimes ADULTS will play TEENS and sometimes TEENS will play ADULTS. Good versatile actors needed.

ADULTS – (25-40s)
Man One
Man Two
Man Three
Woman One
Woman Two
Woman Three

TEENS – (18-25)
Boy One
Boy Two
Boy Three
Girl One
Girl Two
Girl Three

STEP OUT ROLES FROM THE ENSEMBLE

Gloria Rasputin (Adult Ensemble): She’s Mrs. Peterson’s choice to replace Rose. Not exactly what one might expect as the embodiment of the ideal administrative assistant, Gloria is a forceful, broad woman
with true gusto. She’s gaudy, tacky and larger than life. The ability to do forward splits a huge plus. Mezzo-soprano – C flat to E

Mayor (Adult Ensemble: He’s the mayor of the good town of Sweet Apple, Ohio.

Edna (Adult Ensemble): What? You don’t know who Edna is? She’s the mayor’s wife! She has a funny bit in the show as Conrad begins to sing during Sweet Apple’s welcoming ceremony for the auspicious guest.

Maude (Adult Ensemble): He’s the hearty proprietor of Maude’s Roadside Retreat, Sort of gruff and no nonsense.

Other Adult Ensemble Roles: Alice, Nancy, Reporters, Policeman, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Merkle, Shriners,
etc.

Other Teen Ensemble Roles: Penelope Ann, Margie, Harvey Johnson, Karl, Freddie, etc.
